[ Chinese Style ]

Ren Wei Chang, a famous Chinese painter, had drawn a series of block prints named "Thirty Three Knight-errant ".  There are totally thirty three characters, and each of them has their own modeling and distinguishing feature.

This story is from the Tang Dynasty. There’s a famous student named Tang Shan ren who claim himself that he can make the Tin to Silver.  Everyone wanted to ask him about the secret skill.  The other day Tang Shan ren met another student whose very match with him.  Therefore, one night when they travel together, the student wanted Tang Shan ren to teach him about the secret skill, but Tang Shan ren didn’t want to.  Then the student pulled out a knife to threatened Tang Shan ren, so the Tang Shan ren surrender.  After Tang Shan ren tell him about the skill.  ” My master is a celestial, and he made me to kill the person who tell the skill without concern, I was already know the skill, just to test you.” said the student, and left away.

This story is from the Tang Dynasty. The Mayor of Chang An, Li Gan, hit 20 whips on an old man’s back with a stick, because this person stood still while others all made way for Li to pass. To Li’s surprise, the old man walked away as nothing had happened. At night, Li went to the old man’s place to apologize for not recognizing a great person and for his discourtesy. The old man had Li drank together in his simple room, and after that, he made a sword-play to Li. Li admired the old man with the utmost sincerity. Then Li found his beard was cut during the old man’s fencing show. However, the old man was gone the next day while Li went back to the place he stayed last night.

In the Tang Dynasty, there was a man, Wei Sheng, who met a monk on his way to Ruzhou. The monk invited Wei Sheng and his family to the temple for dinner. After a long long walk, they arrived at the temple – while they knew themselves were exactly in danger. The monk noticed Wei Sheng is good at Kong-Fu. The monk’s son is also good at Kong-Fu, and he decided to be a robber. Thus, the monk asked Wei Sheng to kill his son, because his son’s Kong-Fu is better than what he owned. However, nobody can harm his son; the monk let Wei Sheng go, and said good-bye to him with tears.

Mr. Wei, from Tang Dynasty, has been to Jingxi when he was young. At nightfall, he was running on the time though the sky is getting dark. An old man told him not to ride his horse at night since there were a lot of thieves around that area. Wei thought his own arrow skills were strong enough to deal with it, so he kept going on his way. However, after he shot away all the arrows and experienced a series of extraordinary things, he lost his baggages and went back to the hostelry. The old man is still there, and he had all the staffs that Wei lost last night. Wei wanted to be an apprentice, but the old man refused his request.

This man is good at using ropes. He was sent to the jail because of tax-dodging. He claimed that he can perform with ropes, but he never gets a chance to do so in the jail. The king let him do the performance, and then he disappeared in front of the crowd by throwing his rope very high in the sky and climb up to the top of it. It was said that the trick this man were playing is a kind of hypnosis, a magic, which could be very dangerous to the performer.
