Extraordinary Heroes. How brave are you?
Explore stories of boldness, endurance, leadership and sacrifice through the real life experiences of 29 Victoria Cross and George Cross recipients with the Imperial War Museum's first smartphone app.
The Victoria Cross and George Cross are Britain and the Commonwealth’s highest military and civil decorations awarded for extreme acts of bravery.
Included in the app are stories such as Lance Corporal Matthew Croucher, who risked his life in Afghanistan by throwing himself on a grenade to protect the lives of his comrades; Leading Seaman James Magennis, who undertook a series of dangerous dives from his submarine to place mines onto enemy ships; and Odette Sansom, an undercover agent in the Second World War who endured months of interrogation, torture and solitary confinement but revealed no information to her captors.
This app has been launched to accompany The Lord Ashcroft Gallery: Extraordinary Heroes at Imperial War Museum London - a major new exhibition showcasing the world’s largest collection of Victoria Cross and George Cross medals.
