The AA has over one hundred years of experience in seeking out, assessing and recommending the best places to eat and stay in the country. The 2013 AA Hotel Guide app features over 3,000 recommended and inspected hotels, from spa retreats to coastal locations; and from country house hotels to iconic city centre venues.

All listed accommodation displaying an AA logo, star rating and designator has been inspected by a professional AA inspector. Entries may include a detailed description, price info, images, phone numbers, website addresses and more.

Explanation of Wake Lock Permission:
Version 2.2.2 of the app adds travel alarms which will display an information dialog and use the default alarm sound at a specified amount of time before a departure or arrival.  This permission is required in order for alarms to work when the phone's screen is off or the phone is in standby.  This will not turn the phone on if it is fully off.

Explanation of Read Phone State and Identity Permission:  
With the latest update I got rid of the separate LITE and PRO versions and combined them into a single app that uses Google's In-App Purchases for upgrades.  However, I needed a way to migrate the original PRO users over to the new version so they wouldn't have to repurchase the upgrades.  The way I'm doing this is that I'm going to add a function to the pro version that generates a promo code that can be used to unlock the features in the new version.  In order to make the promo code unique, I needed some way to link it to either the user's account or device.  Since Android Market purchases are linked to users' accounts (you can install a purchase on all devices linked to the same google account), I originally wanted to use the user's google account to generate the promo code, but this required the read contact data permission, which I felt was inappropriate due to the amount of private data that permission allows access to.  The next logical step was to use the device's unique id number (which requires the read phone state and identity permission) to generate the promo code and link it to a single device.  The device's id is only used internally within the app to generate and validate the promo code and is never logged or sent to a remote server.  The promo code is generated using a 1-way hash function, so there is no way to determine the device id from the promo code.  The new version needs the permission in order to validate any entered promo codes to make sure they match the user's device.

Oman is located on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula. It has great geological diversity with mountain ranges reaching 3,000 metres high in the north, green oases in the south, and a desert plain in between.

A geologist once said that Oman is one big wonderful outdoor geological Museum with unique geological values. It is the only country in the world composed mostly of oceanic crust and rocks that originated from the mantle - deep below the earth's surface. In addition, evidence can be seen of continental drift and geological processes that have dominated the earth's surface for many millions of years.

Geotourism has been described as a form of natural area tourism that specifically focuses on geology and landscape. It is based on the magic of discovery and the power of authenticity experienced through contact with the natural heritage of the land. In Oman, geological stories can be found everywhere. Some of these are presented on a dramatic scale such as in the massive folding and faulting that can be seen on parts of Oman's 700 km long mountain range, or the huge piles of pillow lava in Wadi AI-Jizzi which are evidence of underwater volcanoes releasing magma to be rapidly cooled deep on the ocean floor. Others stories are found in smaller detail, such as how the fossils of sea creatures can be found deep inland or the story of once mighty forests in areas that are now barren deserts.

These stories can even be found in the hustle and bustle of urban areas. For example visitors to Muscat Corniche need only to stand and face the ocean in order to imagine the scene back in time around 90 million years ago, when a several kilometer thick slab of the oceanic crust started to push its way over the top of the northern coastline of Oman. This unusual over thrusting continued for around 20 Million years, pushing rocks originating from deep within the ocean hundreds of kilometers inland.

In order to provide tourist information and to create awareness about the rich geology in the Muscat Governorate, 30 geological attractions have been developed for a unique Geotourism experience.
