Tracker Booster (v. 1.8)

Tracker Booster is a small utility to help sports tracker applications (e.g. Endomondo) or Google Maps to get best possible GPS signal by keeping the GPS unit active in the background. Some phones have problems using e.g. Endomondo while not getting accurate GPS location info. Without and with Tracker Booster result images attached. Google Maps looses the GPS signal when phone falls into power saving mode. This application keeps the GPS busy so that Google Maps is always in correct location when you need it.

Needs some UI improvements The app works great however the UI could use a little work. On my Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD the buttons are small and all in the upper left corner of the screen. This causes a problem when starting the app as I sometimes accidently hit stop at the same time I hit send to background effectively shutting the app off and minimizing. It would be helpful if the buttons were a little bigger, spaced out more, and possible centered. A suggestion for an improvement would e to turn the status ICON green when it is running and locked on to GPS signal, leave it blue when when it is idle and not started, and make it red when it is running but not locked on to GPS signal.

A must have. Of course, anything that uses the GPS is going to consume battery faster, but even when the tracker is "stopped", it still seems to work to an extent without draining the battery, which is nice. Signal strength will normally affect how fast it takes to determine your exact location, but not always, another good thing. I highly recommend this to anyone, especially if they live in a more rural area like myself.

Working as intended? Great Idea. Good for when using browser html5 location aware apps. Works for a while but still shuts off after about 20 mins and needs turning back on. Is this supposed to happen? An alternative anyone?

Works, but one caveat The app works great while it's running but version 1.8 still keeps turning itself off so that makes it pretty worthless when working out. Harri, please fix this! :-) I'm using Android ICS OS. One star for now and I will revise if it gets updated to fix the bug.

Understand what this does It's simple: GPS talks to satellites to get your location. It sometimes takes a while to sync up when you first turn it on, and it uses a lot of power while it's on. Google noticed that lots of people forgot to turn their GPS off and drained their batteries, so they decided to just turn the GPS off automatically if you weren't using it for even a second. This means you have to get that first-time lock again and again. This app just tells the GPS to stay on all the time. It doesn't boost anything else.
