[2013-08-21] A Google User: Great for most people. The Kindle app is great for meeting most people's needs. However, several features I loved on my old (2nd Gen) Kindle are not available on the app - namely text to speech and the ability for prime members to take advantage of Amazon's lending library. I am disabled, and sometimes TTS is really important for me. Also, as a prime member, I see no reason why Amazon should discriminate its lending library policy by limiting it only to people who own regular Kindles. I'm still me, and I'm still paying the same price for my yearly Prime membership. There is no way I should have to juggle around a Kindle device when my tablet meets the rest of my needs on its own (and I frequently buy books from Amazon, so they get plenty of my money...). But for simply buying and reading books, the app works great. If I didn't have my entire library through Amazon (including all of my notes and marks), however, I would be switching to something else... Update: I'm not huge on the new "time left in chapter" feature. With interruptions, distractions, etc it's almost never accurate. *Much* more useful would be a display of how many "pages" are left, taking text size settings, etc into account. Thanks! |

[2013-08-21] A Google User: Why not on SD card? Graphics better than on my Kindle PaperWhite! Like the Store interface better than on my Kindle too. I order with phone app, download to phone due to limited Kindle storage, then read on Kindle Paperwhite. |

[2013-08-21] A Google User: Big, Slow, Dumb An app that carries very small .mobi files and has almost no features or customization options should be lightweight, responsive and sharp. That it is a product made by a huge, mainstream company makes it even more disgusting that its slow and unresponsive. Timed it today and from the moment I opened book, it took 9 seconds for it to actually open. |
