The Risk is a great movie, a fine blend of medical sci-fi and espionage. Cushing's research lab has created a super virus that cures bubonic plague. Unfortunately, the government feels it could be used as a horrible germ-warfare weapon. Cushing and his staff are outraged when British agents forbid them to publish their work. Will they publish anyway, or give it to another government? This great thriller keeps you guessing. Walters is great as the bumbling, yet sly head of British Intelligence; Pleasence is the seedy go-between who lures scientist Britton into handing over secrets to another power; and Bannen is terrific as a bitter paraplegic. It's Hercules vs. Genghis Khan. Forest, as Hercules, saves a girl from the stake; bends jail bars to escape; carries huge logs and rocks; and duels before Mongol nobles. But the most memorable scene is where he battles an alligator. Forest tries to make it look good, but his foe is a big, limp rubber alligator.
